What is the difference between CGST, SGST, and IGST?
For intra-state (within one state) transactions, GST is split equally into CGST (Central GST, collected by Centre) and SGST (State GST, collected by the state government). For inter-state transactions, IGST (Integrated GST) applies — collected by the Centre and shared with the destination state. Example: 18% GST within Maharashtra = 9% CGST + 9% SGST. 18% GST from Maharashtra to Delhi = 18% IGST.
How do I calculate GST backward (remove GST)?
To find the original price excluding GST from a GST-inclusive price: Original Price = (GST-inclusive price × 100) / (100 + GST rate). Example: If MRP is ₹1,180 with 18% GST, original price = (1180 × 100) / 118 = ₹1,000. GST amount = ₹1,180 – ₹1,000 = ₹180. Our calculator does this automatically with the "Remove GST" mode.
Which products fall under which GST slab?
0%: Fresh food, milk, eggs, books, newspapers. 5%: Packaged food, household goods, economy hotels. 12%: Processed foods, phones, computers, business hotels. 18%: Most services (CA, restaurant), electronics, FMCG products, financial services. 28%: Luxury goods, cars, motorcycles above 350cc, tobacco, aerated drinks. 3%: Gold, silver, and precious jewellery.
Is GST applicable on exports?
No. Exports are zero-rated under GST, meaning the exporter pays 0% GST on exported goods or services. Additionally, exporters can claim a refund of input tax credit (ITC) on inputs used to produce the exported goods. This makes Indian exports more competitive globally. However, the export must be accompanied by a Letter of Undertaking (LUT) or bond.
About this GST calculator
This free GST calculator supports two modes — Add GST (calculate GST-inclusive price from the base price) and Remove GST (reverse-calculate the base price from a GST-inclusive MRP). It covers all Indian GST slabs: 0%, 3%, 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%.
For intra-state transactions, the GST amount is split equally into CGST (Central Goods and Services Tax) and SGST (State Goods and Services Tax). The calculator shows both components separately, making it easy to fill GST invoices accurately.
To add GST: enter the base price (excluding GST) and select the applicable rate — the calculator shows the total price and the GST amount. To remove GST: switch to "Remove GST" mode, enter the MRP or the GST-inclusive price, and the calculator shows the original price before GST.
